One Year Since WBC Launched its Environment Strategy

A year ago, West Berkshire Council published its Environment Strategy (https://info.westberks.gov.uk/environment) outlining the steps to work towards a target of carbon neutrality by 2030.

Kiln Lane Closure until 20th July 2021

Kiln Lane, Mortimer is currently closed, the closure is expected to remain in place until the 20th July 2021.

This is an emergency closure so that repairs can be made to a visible leak.  There is no alternative diversion route.

Level 2 Heatwave Alert from 18th July

A Heatwave level 2 warning has been issued from 00:00 Sunday 18th July to 00:00 Tuesday 20th July. This means that temperatures are likely to rise to levels that increase the risk of ill health among vulnerable people.

We know that death rates rise soon after temperature increases, with many deaths occurring in the first one to two days, so swift action is needed now.

Can you help define the bright future of Mortimer?

Many residents will remember that the village undertook a Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) which was completed in 2017. It largely focused on where the houses that we were required to accommodate under the West Berkshire Local Plan should be built and resulted in the houses now being built behind the Horse & Groom and St. John’s School.

Alfresco meeting of the Full Council!

On the 24th of June, the Parish Council held a full meeting in the grounds of the Mortimer Scout Hut in Birch Lane. Why, you may ask? Well, by law, meetings of the full Council and Council committee meetings must be held in public and the change in the Covid-19 regulations, at the beginning of May, meant that online meetings no longer met that criteria.
