Home-Start Volunteering Opportunities

Home-Start West Berkshire are on the hunt for some more amazing volunteers. Their volunteers give 2-3 hours a week to support a family experiencing challenging times. Volunteering is a great way to improve self-esteem and well-being as well as learning some new skills and maybe even finding new or better employment.

The Street Road Closure 18th - 23rd September 19:00 to 05:00

The Street in the Parish of Wokefield and Stratfield Mortimer will be closed from 18th to 23rd September 2023, between the hours of 19:00 to 05:00 each night, from its junctions with Station Road and its junction with Goodboy’s Lane. The closure is to enable Volker Highways to carry out stud and lining works on behalf of West Berkshire Council.

Met Office Amber Heat Health Alert

The Met Office, in conjunction with UKHSA, has issued a AMBER Heat-Health Alert - (Enhanced hot weather response) for the South East between 05/09/2023 at 12:00 and 10/09/2023 at 21:00. This potentially means significant impacts across the health and social care sector due to the high temperatures and vulnerable people may be at risk.

SMPC’s Community Grant Fund is now open for applications in September 2023

Stratfield Mortimer Parish Council’s Community Grant Fund is opening for organisations to apply for funding from Friday, 1st September 2023. Applications will be limited to £1,500 maximum but organisations can seek match funding using platforms such as The Good Exchange.

Drury Lane Closure - between Turks Land and Pitfield Lane

Drury Lane, Mortimer, is currently closed, the closure is from the junction of Turks Lane to the junction of Pitfield Lane.

The closure is expected to remain in place until the 4th September 2023.

This is an emergency closure so that repairs can be made to a visible leak. The diversion route will be signed on site.
