We all saw that the parade was led with great enthusiasm by Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, Guides and Brownies. The participants were not only from Mortimer but also from Burghfield, Sulhampstead and Ufton Nervet. Neil Johnson, who organised this part of the parade, has pointed out that this was the first time since the 1968 St George’s parade in Theale that these groups had paraded together. Due to changes in the scouting world after that, the respective groups chose different paths. So, this joint parade was a moment in history.
I am sure Mortimer will remember the Platinum Jubilee celebrations for a long time! As Chairman of the Parish Council it is really great to read so many messages of thanks to all involved.
