NOTICE OF CASUAL COUNCILLOR VACANCY

A Casual Vacancy has arisen on Stratfield Mortimer Parish Council following the death of Councillor J. Wells.

Are you passionate about Mortimer and want to help shape its future? Becoming a Parish Councillor is a rewarding way to get involved in your community.

What’s the role about?

Parish Councillors are volunteers who work together to make decisions that impact local services, facilities, and the future of the village. You don’t need any special qualifications—just a bit of time, enthusiasm, and a genuine interest in making a difference.

What will you be doing?

🔹 Attending Parish Council meetings
🔹Contributing towards making decisions on local issues 
🔹 Helping to manage local facilities such as playgrounds, sports areas, and commons
🔹 Engaging with residents, businesses, and local authorities
🔹 Supporting and delivering local projects and initiatives

Who can apply?

If you're aged 18 or over, a British, Commonwealth, Republic of Ireland, or EU citizen, and meet at least one of the following criteria, you may be eligible:

  • You're on the electoral register for Stratfield Mortimer;
  • You've lived in or within 3 miles of the parish for the last 12 months;
  • Your principal place of work is in the parish;
  • You've occupied land or premises in the parish as a tenant or owner for the last 12 months.

Please note: You must not be disqualified from holding office as a Councillor.

The new Councillor will be co-opted at the next Full Council meeting, at Mortimer Methodist Church.
