Statement On Remembrance Day 2020

Further to discussions with the Mortimer branch of the Royal British Legion, the Scouts, the benefice, and the police, the Remembrance Day commemorations, taking place on Sunday the 8th November, will be of a different format this year.

Having considered the Government Guidelines regarding Remembrance Day commemorations, and in order to protect the health and well-being of the participants, marshals and members of the public, the parade and usual event at the War Memorial will not take place. Instead the village is invited to join in from their homes and with the plans to broadcast the Last Post, the Exhortation, Reveille and the Kohima Epitaph across the village, it is hoped that people will commemorate and observe the two minute silence from their doorsteps and gardens.

Ideas on other activities for remembrance can be found at https://www.britishlegion.org.uk/get-involved/remembrance (opens in new window).

Further information on the planned commemorations for Stratfield Mortimer will be available shortly via the parish noticeboards and the Council's website and Facebook page.

We will remember them.
