Stratfield Mortimer Parish Council is seeking a self-motivated, conscientious person to take responsibility for the care and maintenance of our Fairground and surrounds, identifying and (where possible) undertaking the work that needs to be done to keep it safe, secure, and the best it can be for our community to enjoy.

This highly rewarding role of Village Custodian is vital to our small Parish Council team and someone is needed to start work as soon as possible.

You will help support the community by maintaining the facilities of the village and so keep everyone safe. It is very rewarding as you will personally be contributing to the wellbeing of the community and delivering Parish Council services.

Largely outdoors, mostly on your own initiative, you will undertake a range of tasks for the Council.

Responsibilities include:

Identifying and undertaking work needed to keep the facilities that the Council is responsible for in good order (such as hedges, fences, gates, smaller trees)

Inspecting playground equipment to ensure it remains safe (training provided)

Keeping the Fairground clean and tidy

Maintaining the parish cemetery

Your flexible working hours will depend on what needs doing. You should expect them to be a little longer in the summer than the winter. Hours are likely to be between 10 and 15 hours each week and more may be available. You will generally be able to manage when you work, the measurement of success being the completion of identified tasks and projects within required timescales.

This role offers paid leave and the option of a workplace pension scheme.

The current rate of pay is £12.42 per hour (but expected to increase shortly in line with a national pay award, with any increase being backdated to the date of appointment). 

Any necessary training will be given.
