Update On Mortimer Station Car Park Application

Stratfield Mortimer Parish Council is pleased to announce that the planning application for an additional 150 car parking spaces at Mortimer Station was granted at West Berkshire Council’s Eastern Area Planning Committee meeting on the evening of the 28th October.

The Parish Council started looking at additional parking at the station in 2007. An initial planning application was refused and turned down on appeal in 2009. Further to the ratification of the Neighbourhood Development Plan, which confirmed Mortimer’s strong desire for further station parking, the Council worked closely with GWR, Englefield Estate and Pro Vision to meet this objective. In particular, the Council would like to thank Mr. Neil Kiley, initially as a councillor and subsequently as a co-opted member of the public and Katherine Miles of Pro Vision, for their work regarding this project.

The car park will be on the Basingstoke platform side and the station will thus have parking and drop off facilities on both sides of the track. Conditions governing aspects of the successful planning application, such as lighting, boundary treatment and landscaping will now be set by West Berkshire Council’s planning officers. Moving forward, GWR will be responsible for the actual build.
