West Berkshire Council needs your opinion on the upcoming separate food waste collections service

West Berkshire Council (WBC) has launched a survey https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/wbcfoodwaste  ahead of the roll out of a separate weekly food waste collection service and would like to encourage everyone who lives in West Berkshire to take part in the survey. The survey is now open and will close at midnight on 3 May 2022.

As part of the new service, starting in autumn 2022, food waste will be collected weekly, but on the same day as your usual recycling and rubbish collection. WBC currently collect food waste every fortnight in your green bin, with your garden waste if you are subscribed to that service.  As with all recycling and rubbish collections, the service will be operated by Veolia UK, who will collect the food waste using eight new purpose-built vehicles.

The majority of properties will be provided with a 23-litre kerbside caddy with a lockable lid, which can be stored outside with other existing recycling containers. Residents who share a bin store will receive a different sized bin to share with neighbours. All residents will also be supplied with a handy 5-litre kitchen caddy to collect food waste in before emptying it into their bigger kerbside caddy outside.

In this survey WBC are asking for residents views to help better understand your recycling habits, whether you think it's important to recycle food waste, and if you'd use the new service when it starts during autumn 2022.

They would also like to hear from people who don't currently recycle their food waste to find out what, if anything, is stopping you from doing so.

WBC will use relevant feedback to improve how the new service can be delivered. Nearer the time, they will let residents know exactly when the service will start, when the caddies will be delivered and what can be recycled in them.

The results of this survey will be made available within four weeks of the survey closing date.

The easiest way to participate in the survey is online via: www.westberks.gov.uk/WBCfoodwaste or request a hardcopy from the customer services team on: 01635 519080.
