A letter from the Chairman of the Steering Group for the Basingstoke and Deane Local Plan

We hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year.

350 Houses Update
With the Christmas break now behind us, we now need to focus on the next three weeks and what needs to be achieved.

There are two key dates to be aware of:

7 January – 4:00pm to 8:00pm, St John’s Hall
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council will be presenting their proposals for the development. Please attend to review the plans and understand what is being proposed.
At 7:00pm, there will be a public protest outside St John’s Hall, with banners provided (or feel free to bring your own), to demonstrate the strength of feeling against this site.
23 January – Consultation Deadline
This is the closing date for submitting objections. We urgently need as many planning-based objections as possible to clearly identify the issues with the proposed site. Currently, only just over 3% of the village has responded, so we need many more submissions.
Anyone in your household may object, provided they use a separate email address.

Please use the following link to access the objection toolkit, which includes key points and example wording. It takes around 20 minutes to complete:
https://www.stratfield-mortimer.gov.uk/objection

Signage has now been placed along West End Road to raise awareness, and you may hear increasing discussion around the village. Please encourage people to visit the link above, register, and submit their objection before 23 January.

If you need assistance with your objection, the Parish Council is happy to help. Please contact the Parish Office at: the.clerk@stratfield-mortimer.gov.uk

We really do need your support. The Parish Council cannot achieve this alone – individual responses are essential. Currently, we are second in the number of responses by site, but significantly behind the leading location. We want Basingstoke and Deane to clearly recognise the strength of feeling in Mortimer before the consultation closes.

Thank you once again for your continued support. The Steering Group is working hard on the official Parish Council response, which will be detailed and technical, and it will be strengthened by the objections submitted by residents.

Warm regards,

Councillor David Kilshaw
Chairman, Basingstoke & Deane Local Plan Steering Group
