Members of the public are welcome at all Full Council and Committee Meetings of the Council.
Full Council Meetings
Full Council meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month, except in August and December. These take place in the Mortimer Methodist Church, West End Road and commence at 7:30 pm. It may be necessary to ring the doorbell at the Church main entrance to be let in (because of the security of the Church Hall).
The Agenda for full Parish Council meetings, showing the business to be discussed, are displayed on the two Parish Council Notice Boards (one outside the Library entrance and one outside The Baobab) at least three days before the meeting. The current agenda is also available on the Meetings and Minutes page on the same timescale.
Members of the public can briefly address the Council during the Public Session in respect to business on the agenda. This Public Session will be for a maximum of 10 minutes, at the discretion of the chairman. An individual member of the public should not speak for more than 3 minutes and questions shall not require a response at the meeting, nor start a debate on the question. The chairman of the meeting may direct that a written or oral response be given.
Any such discussion will form part of the formal proceedings of the Parish Council and will, therefore, be included in the Council's official minutes. Any resultant follow-up action will be dealt with separately.
Should their presence be prejudicial to the public interest by reason of the confidential nature of the business to be transacted or for other special reasons, the public’s exclusion from part or all of a meeting shall be by a resolution which gives reasons for the public’s exclusion.
Parish Council Committee Meetings
Most Committee meetings are usually held in the Parish Council Office at the rear of the Library. Entrance is via the outside gate to the left of the library building.
Agendas for all Committee meetings are posted on the two notice boards and are listed on the Meetings and Minutes page.
Because of the tight timescale imposed by Government on planning applications, Planning Committee meetings are held whenever required and details of the applications to be discussed are posted on the two Parish Council noticeboards three days in advance. The latest agenda is available on the Minutes and Meetings page. All planning applications can be viewed on the Planning pages of West Berkshire District Council's website: https://publicaccess.westberks.gov.uk/online-applications/
